How to use variable in FTP connection settings

I want to upload some files to my websites.
Since these are different websites - these have different FTP details.

This is what i have tried to do:

Save the FTP server, login and pwd details inside a table.
Save each detail as a variable.

In the FTP connection setting, i am using - variable.serverdetails , variable.login, varibale.password

This thing is not working.

So, just want to know whether variables can be used in the FTP connection settings

Did you used correct format?

{-Variable.name-}

I mean with brackets?

yes, format is correct.. i just want to know if this approach is ok... and whether the files are uploaded once the debug template says - its done.
Strangely - after i posted this thread and rechecked the server - the files are uploaded but the files were not there when the template said - its executed successfully...

Maybe your FTP program didnt showed up to date data)
