How to get and set Cookies?

Now that ZP4 is using the Firefox engine, are we able to get and set cookies in our templates? If so, how do we do this?

Is it a matter of using javascript's document.cookie? I tried this, but it said it caused an error (with no info on the error). Please help. Thanks.
